MY Story

Meet Mat

I'm Mat Briars, founder of BRIARS.

I've spent more than 15 years working with businesses, qualified with AAT, and have completed my ICAEW professional exams.

Over the years, I've seen how easily accounting can become complicated, expensive and disconnected from the people actually running the business.

I started BRIARS because I wanted to do things differently.

Our approach

Built For The Long Term

I work with a carefully selected group of business owners, helping them understand their numbers, stay on top of their tax and make better decisions — without unnecessary jargon or layers of people between them and their accountant.

I'm based in Lancashire and work with clients across Burnley, Blackburn, Pendle, Greater Manchester and the wider North West, as well as remotely across the UK.

The aim is not to build the biggest client list possible. I'd rather build long-term relationships with a smaller number of businesses where I can genuinely add value.

For me, good accountancy isn't just about getting the accounts filed on time. It's about knowing your client, understanding what they're trying to achieve and being there when they need a second opinion.

Outside BRIARS, I'm usually running, keeping fit or following Arsenal.
